Moviemaking

Lights, camera, action!

Get creative. Explore the art of digital moving images. Tell your story through movies.

In Moviemaking, students explore and develop their creativity through making movies. Through many hands-on projects, students learn and practice skills such as using lighting effectively, using various microphones and cameras, using green screens, and editing in Final Cut.

Advanced Topics in Media Production (H): Portfolio

Advanced Topics in Media Production (Honors) is a year-long immersive studio experience designed for experienced media creators who are ready to conceive, develop, and produce original cinematic works from concept to public premiere. Through collaborative production labs, participants refine their expertise in narrative design, directing, cinematography, editing, lighting, and sound design while cultivating a distinctive creative voice as visual storytellers.

Rooted in professional production practice and fueled by creative exploration, the course encourages artists to think ambitiously, take risks, and push the boundaries of their craft. The year culminates in a festival-ready capstone film and curated public screening, showcasing each media producer’s growth, vision, and professional-level achievement.

Prerequisites: Enrollment in the Honors-Level Media Production course requires successful completion of Advanced Media Production or instructor approval, granted upon review of a portfolio or film that demonstrates creative and technical proficiency appropriate for honors-level study.

Story Lab

This is a year-long course.

When was the last time a story moved you? Was it a commercial? Was it a podcast? Was it a short film in your social media feed? In this class, we will explore how stories shape our cultures and can be used for impact, expression, inquiry or persuasion. We will analyze different kinds of media and we will increase our ability to evaluate digital stories and discover ways to inspire others through examination of our own experiences and seeing the world through fresh perspectives. Students will have the opportunity to create their own film and share with an audience.
