Overview of Middle School Athletics
Menlo’s Middle School Athletics program offers both a high level of competition and a wide array of sports for students to choose from.
Across four seasons spanning the academic year, there are over 50 interscholastic teams. The Middle School Athletics program serves as Menlo’s Physical Education program, which means that 100% of students participate and all sports teams practice during the school day. Games are held directly after school.
Menlo’s Middle School sports program provides a variety of competitive sports. We are proud of our athletic accomplishments. More important than winning, we value the power of sportsmanship, collaboration, developing tactical and strategic skills, integrity, and finding joy in the midst of competition.
Menlo’s Middle School sports program offers teams for every student, understanding that students arrive with different levels of athletic experience and skill. To support the skill range, we provide both “A” and “B” teams, allowing students to play at a level that matches their ability. Our goal is to provide a positive, challenging, and fun student-athlete experience. Our Athletic Department staff’s mission is to support our students by developing their mental and physical skills, building confidence that will shine on and off the competition grounds, and teaching the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, integrity, perseverance, and leadership.
Menlo Athletics believes that athletic development should start early with Sports Performance training that is safe, smart, and tailored to growing bodies. Based on a rotating schedule, middle school teams will train with our Sports Performance Coaches during their PE time. Menlo’s Middle School Sports Performance program supports student-athletes in building strength, improving coordination, and boosting confidence while learning proper techniques and healthy habits. Even at a young age, acquiring these skills offers significant benefits—it can help prevent injuries and develop healthy muscles and bones. The emphasis is always on the student-athlete experience and improving fundamentals in a supportive environment.
