About the Team

Menlo School advanced to the Central Coast Section (CCS) Div. I semifinals in 2025. The Knights’ playoff journey included a decisive 23-7 victory in the opener, though they ultimately fell to St. Ignatius in the semifinals. Early season, Menlo played two Southern California powers during a San Diego trip, and the Knights closed West Bay Athletic League play with a win.

In 2023, Menlo lacrosse advanced to the quarterfinals and defeated Woodside in its first section appearance in the two-year history of CCS playoff lacrosse.

A founding member of the Peninsula Athletic League and its most successful, Menlo continues to be a dominant force since it moved to the West Bay Athletic League in 2009.

The Coach

Blake Kim

Blake Kim (First Season)

Kim, who was Menlo’s boys’ lacrosse coach for eight seasons,  holds more than 30 years of lacrosse experience - as a player and coach.

Officially, this is Kim’s second stint leading the girls. Kim served as girls’ and boys’ lacrosse coach during the 2021 season. 

Before coming to Menlo, Kim  served as head coach for two seasons at Sacred Heart Prep, and directed the Gators to a 29-9 record in 2011 and 2012. He was named the 2011 U.S. Lacrosse High School Coach of the Year for Northern California. He coached with Firehawks Lacrosse in various capacities - as a head coach or assistant coach - since 2010. He then left to focus on his full-time job at a lacrosse manufacturing company in Santa Cruz County.

His international experience spans from his playing days to the present. He was a member of the Korean National Lacrosse team at the World Championships in 2002, and has a coached at numerous camps and clinics worldwide. Kim was inducted into the University at Albany (New York) Athletic Hall of Fame where he was a captain as a senior. Kim holds his bachelors in Biological Sciences from University of Albany and his masters in Medical and Science Illustration from Johns Hopkins.

About the Team

A founding member of the Peninsula Athletic League and its most successful, Menlo continues to be a dominant force since it moved to the West Bay Athletic League in 2009. In 2017, Menlo captured the round-robin WBAL title and tournament championship. Girls’ lacrosse has won the league title seven of the past 10 seasons. Menlo annually plays host to national and international powers, including teams from Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, and England. Menlo has offered the sport since 1998, when it became established as a competitive standard in NorCal.

About the Coach

Ryan Sage (second season)

Since 2017, Ryan Sage served as Director of Operations for the Firehawks Lacrosse Club. Sage oversaw all aspects of the program, then also took on the role of Boys’ Director for the club last season. During his tenure, he managed a pool of more than 250 players from ages 4 to 14 years old from around the Bay Area. During his time at Firehawks, Sage concurrently was a lacrosse offensive coordinator and strength coach at Notre Dame de Namur, creating the playbook, running practices and scouting.

A native of British Columbia, he learned lacrosse as a box player and soon transitioned to field lacrosse. He studied and played at Mars Hill University in North Carolina, where he was conference leader in goals, two-time Academic All American, 2015 conference champion, and received the Male Scholar-Athlete Award for achieving the highest GPA of all senior athletes. Before graduating with a bachelors in biology, Sage also served as an assistant coach for the women’s volleyball team.

Since 2014, Sage has been competing internationally as a member of the Scottish National Team. He has played in two World Championships, and one European Championship with the Scotland side and remains active on their roster preparing for the 2023 World Championships.
