Why Host a Menlo Intern

Real Impact, Real Experiences

Each summer, Menlo students take on project-based internships across a wide range of industries — including nonprofits, start-ups, and organizations working in AI, healthcare, venture capital, education, and civic tech. Guided by Menlo faculty and host mentors, interns apply what they’ve learned in school to real-world settings, deliver meaningful work, and gain confidence for life beyond the classroom.

Past host organizations include leading medical centers, biotech and life sciences firms, venture capital groups, robotics and autonomous systems companies, and mission-driven nonprofits, where students have conducted cancer research, designed AI tools, supported community programs, and contributed to policy and communications projects that make a difference.

Hosting a Menlo intern gives organizations the opportunity to mentor emerging talent, gain fresh perspectives, and support meaningful experiential learning.

In Their Words: What Students Say

Real-world experiences shape more than résumés - they shape identity, confidence, and purpose.

Learning to Lead (Identity & Initiative)

“I learned how important it is to take initiative and work independently. I chose my own projects, managed my time, and discovered how empowering it feels to direct my own work.”
- Matthew Franc, interned at WindBorne Systems

“Leadership isn’t about titles—and it’s definitely not about telling others what to do. Real leadership is about service, planning, and building something bigger than yourself.”
- Hadley Larson, interned at Peninsula Bridge

Real-World Readiness (Confidence & Professional Growth)

“I learned how to prepare for meetings, conduct myself in a corporate setting, and manage a 9-to-5 schedule. It was my first real taste of professional independence.”
- Kate Hirsh, interned at Roivant Sciences

“I was surprised by how much I loved being in an office environment. The team felt close-knit and supportive—more like a family than I ever expected.”
- Caroline Clack, interned at L&P Surgery

Purpose & Impact (Contribution & Connection)

“I felt like an adult contributing meaningfully to real research. When a team of experienced doctors came to me and my supervisor for answers on a key drug question, it was surreal. I realized I could make a real impact.”
- Spersh Goyal, interned at Roivant Sciences

“I’m proud of the work I produced on the Nuro Brand Manifesto and the chance to contribute to a major partnership announcement with Uber and Lucid. It was incredible to be part of something so meaningful.”
- Malia Chen, interned at Nuro
